DESCRIPTION:Resonance Arts is proud to present its October 2024 Cross Modulations music series concert featuring Extraordinary Popular Delusions and Ex Ibex \nDoors open at 7p\, show starts at 8p. Full bar! \nAbout the Musicians \nKnown for their long-standing residencies at Hotti Biscotti and the Beat Kitchen\, Extraordinary Popular Delusions has been a stalwart of the Chicago improvised/new music scene since its 2005 formation. Named after a 19th-century Scottish sociological study of market bubbles and manias\, Extraordinary Popular Delusions personnel will probably involve some combination of Jim Baker (piano\, ARP synthesizer\, viola)\, Brian Sandstrom (double bass\, electric guitar\, trumpet)\, Steve Hunt (drums\, percussion)\, and Edward Wilkerson Jr. (reeds). \nEx Ibex\nEx Ibex is a new/creative music ensemble that brings together 5 Chicago performers contributing their unique and personal approaches to group improvisation and spontaneous composition. Their distinctive sound – atmospheric\, gritty\, spacious and rhythmically driving -.is informed and inspired by influences including the storied Chicago music scene\, contemporary classical\, rock\, funk\, world musics and more. Flowing from one sonic space to the next\, Ex Ibex approaches its performance without expectation\, leaving the listener constantly surprised with what comes next. \nEx Ibex is Dheeru Pennepalli (guitart)\, David Keller (cello/keyboards)\, Maria Elena Hernandez (a. saxophone)\, Jeff Chan (winds) and Greg Diethrich (drumset/percussion)

SUMMARY:Sharp/Bryerton Duo & Ratchet Trio + Bryerton
DESCRIPTION:Resonance Arts presents this special concert of new/improvised music featuring Charles Sharp (woodwinds) from LA! Charles will be performing in a variety of small ensembles. The Ratchet Trio with Michael Perkins (keys)\, Ausberto Acevedo (bass) and Jeff Chan (winds) with special guest Jerome Bryerton (percussion) rounds out the bill. \nRA is pleased to be partnering with Marz Community Brewing Company to present this event\, which is free admission! \nAbout the Musicians: \nCharles Sharp\nCharles Sharp is a multi-instrumentalist and composer whose work has been recorded on UCLA Ethnomusicology Artist Series\, Big As Records\, Acoustic Levitation\, Empty Cellar\, and Ictus Records. He has a Ph.D. in ethnomusicology from University of California\, Los Angeles and he teaches at California State University\, Fullerton. His teaching and research focuses on American music as well as improvisational and experimental music. His writing has been published in the Black Music Research\, Journal for the Society of American Music\, Pacific Review of Ethnomusicology\, and Oxford University Press. \nRatchet Trio is keyboardist Michael Perkins\, bassist Ausberto Acevedo and multi-instrumentalist Jeff Chan. The ensemble is a collective of improvising musicians informed by multiple contemporary performance practices and traditions\, including classical music\, rock\, free improvisation and jazz. \nRatchet Trio will be joined by Jerome Bryerton (drumset/percussion)\, who has contributed his percussive strategies to local and international improv ensembles. He has worked with leading figures of improvisational music including Wolfgang Fuchs\, Tony Bevan\, John Butcher and Guillermo Gregorio\, to name only a few. Jerome appears on releases by the Balance Point Acoustics and Free Music Productions labels\, among others. \nAbout Resonance Arts\nResonance Arts is committed to providing opportunities for performing artists and audiences to connect in spaces across the Chicago area.
